What is the visual URL?

The visual URL is a unique sharing link for a visual on a Power BI report page. When sharing a specific visual, Power BI will generate a URL for that visual on that report page.

How do I get the visual URL?

Generating a URL is easy. Follow these simple steps:

1. Load the report in the Power BI service. Make sure you are not in edit mode.

2. Hover your mouse over the visual so that the context menu is shown, then select the more options button

 3. Then select Share

4. Then "Link to this visual"

5. Alternatively, you can find the Share option by right clicking the visual.

6. This will open the Copy Link popup, select the copy button

7. Finally Power BI will generate a share URL which you can copy into PowerTester.

What does PowerTester do with the URL?

PowerTester can use that URL to identify that visualisation you want to test. PowerTester parses and decodes the URL and stores the id's as a reference to that visual.

Can anyone access the report with that visual?

No, the report permissions are still in place. Therefore only a user with permission to that report can view the visual even with the link. It does not allow anonymous or unauthorised access to the report.
